Finnieston Crane :: More Info
.The Finnieston Crane's really Stobcross Crane No.7, but everyone calls it the Finnieston crane, so I'll stick with that. Built in 1932, the crane was initially used for installing ships' engines and boilers. Later, it was used for loading huge cargos - it's 175-ton capacity meant it could handle the largest locomotives Springburn's railway works could manufacture.
It's an iconic structure in Glasgow, used in countless pictures and TV shows. It appears nightly in the background of the BBC Scottish News.
